Hello from Ehime and Kochi!
Ehime and Kochi are located in Shikoku, an island located southwest of Japan’s main island of Honshu. Shikoku is the smallest and least-populous main island, which makes it an ideal destination if you want to easily get 'off the beaten path' and encounter fewer tourists, but without being in the wilderness. Set out on a trip of discovery with Michi & Co.

The Traditional and the Modern
Matsuyama Castle (松山城, Matsuyamajō) is one of Japan’s 12 original castles. Located on a steep hill in the city center with a magnificent bird’s eye view of Matsuyama city and and the Seto Inland Sea. Visitors can take the cable car or even the chairlift to go up!
Dogo Onsen Honkan, the emperor bath house, is arguably the oldest hot spring in Japan that dates back to 3000 years ago. Fans of Japanese animation may recognize the building's façade—said to have inspired Director Hayao Miyasaki for the bathhouse that appears in The Spirited Away.
Yusuhara is a small mountainous town, 91% of which is covered with lush forests. This small town, however, holds the title of architectural town. Here, you can find many examples of the work of renowned architect Kengo Kuma who combines modern rhythmic lines with natural elements.
The Charming Old Towns
Nostalgic alleys and old-fashioned houses, serving as remembrance both to the days of the Edo Period and the Meiji Period. Visit a number of buildings that are considered as National Important Cultural Asset.
Find the picturesque Yuge Shrine compound. Surrounded by a pond, visitors must cross the arched bridge to reach the shrine.
The Kasuga River flows through the center of Sakawa Town. In springtime, cherry blossoms flower along the bank of the river in front of the charming town office.
Enjoying What Nature Offers
A moss-covered ground in the middle of the woods. This is a secret haven for lovers of nature! Sip a cup of coffee while admiring the enchanting green scenery.
Shikoku Karst is known as one of Japan’s top 3 karsts, the plateau peaks at 1485 meters above sea level with panoramic views stretching to the horizon. The route leading to the mountain is designated as one of the 100 most scenic roads in all of Japan!Make your own delicious sun-dried sea salt with sea water from the Pacific Ocean and the power of the sun! Bring home a small jar of the salt you created as a souvenir.
Local Culinary Delights
Kure-don, a bowl of rice topped with the fresh seafood of your choice. Recommended dish is katsuo-no-tataki (seared bonito), which is the universal soul food of Kochi Prefecture.
Hirome Market is brimming with local gastronomy. Tour the market and buy from a few stalls, grab a seat in the free-seating area and enjoy the feast of food from the different stalls.
Shimanto River is considered one of Japan's three major clear streams because no large-scale dams have been built on the main watercourse. Enjoy locally sourced grilled eel on board the Yakatabune as the boat takes you on a gentle is highly recommended!
